The U10 Collingwood Jr. Blues were the winners of the Huronia Hockey Tournament, which took place Oct. 25-27 at the Eddie Bush Memorial Arena.

A few Collingwood boys made the town proud at home this past weekend, taking the top prize at the Huronia Hockey Tournament.

The under-10 Collingwood Jr. Blues took to the ice at the Eddie Bush Memorial Arena Oct. 25 to 27, beating out two of the top-six teams in Ontario to win the tournament on Sunday. The team currently sits 6-0 in their regular season.

One of the key driving motivators for the team this season, says assistant coach Sean Landreth, has been last year’s Centennial Cup win for the Collingwood Blues.

“There’s a huge resurgence of hockey in Collingwood since,” said Landreth in an interview with CollingwoodToday. “Kids really enjoy seeing local role models in the area. It’s really helped.”

Team players are Hunter Landreth, Nolan Penfold, Callum Kelly, Hunter Johnston, Jacob Weir, Caleb Green, Baiden Hilis, Viceroy Smith, Max Skehill, Cole Berofsky, William Jeffrey, Liem Beatson, Barrett Sembay and Emmett Carr. Coaching and management staff include Carl Penfold, Jaye Johnston, Dave Kelly, Alannah Kelly and Sean Landreth.

When the boys won their final game on Sunday against Norfolk 1-0, Landreth said the game had been a barn-burner.

“It was unbelievable. It was a defensive effort,” he said. “We just need to put more pucks in the net in the next tournaments.”
