This weekend, a pro disc golf official wants to introduce beginners to the twists, turns, and tosses of frisbee golf at one of Wasaga's newest courses.

On Nov. 4, Patrick McCauley is hosting a free clinic through Disc Golf Days at the Pridham Park nine-hole course in Wasaga Beach. McCauley is a certified official through the Professional Disc Golf Association.

The clinic involves an introduction to the sport and the basics, and there's an opportunity for both beginners and experienced players to participate in their own tournaments in the afternoon.

Disc golf is a growing sport that involves throwing special golf discs (very similar to frisbees) toward and into a metal standing basket. It follows the general rules of golf and the courses are usually located in local parks.

There are no disc golf courses in Collingwood, but there are courses in Wasaga Beach and at Duntrool Highlands.

Clinic sign-in starts at 9:45 a.m. on Nov. 4 with beginner lessons from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. and guided doubles (for beginners and advanced players) from 11 a.m. to noon.

There will be competition doubles from 11 a.m. to noon, at a cost of $10, plus competition singles (c-tier tournament) from 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. at a cost of $30. Both those events are for advanced players.

The novice singles competition for beginners is from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Those who sign up and pay the admission for the tournaments also take home a commemorative disc with the inaugural Wasaga Beach Pridham Park Disc Golf logo on it.

To sign up, visit the Disc Golf Days website here.
