A community choir has joined up with a high school jazz band to present a swing concert in Collingwood.

The Sound Investment Community Choir is hosting the Swing Spring Sing concert on Saturday, April 28 at 7:30 p.m. at the New Life Brethren Church at 28 Tracey Lane.

The choir has invited the Collingwood Collegiate Jazz Band as special guests for the show. The common denominator for both the choir and the band is Aaron Bell. Bell is head of music at Collingwood Collegiate Institute (CCI) and he is the music director for the Sound Investment Community Choir.

Pianist Keiko Yoden-Kuepfer and Bassist Susan Connolly will also be accompanying the choir at the April 28 show.

The CCI Senior Jazz Band is made up of Grade 12 students, most of whom started playing their instruments in Grade 9. The band was recently awarded Most Outstanding Jazz Ensemble at the Collingwood Regional Musicfest. The band rehearses twice a week and will wrap up the festival season in Toronto this May at the Musicfest National Competition.

The Sound Investment Community Choir is a four-part choir based in Collingwood, but the membership comes from across the South Georgian Bay Area. The choir was established in 1973 as a ladies’ glee club, and in 1991 the choir invited men to join and became the Sound Investment Community Choir.

Tickets for the CCI Jazz Band and Sound Investment Community Choir show are $20 for adults and are available online or via the Theatre Collingwood Box Office at 705-445-2200. Youth 12 and under are free with one purchased adult ticket.
