Local students swept the podium at the Georgian Bay Secondary School Association Alpine Ski championships this week.
Held at Osler Bluff Ski Club on Feb. 14, the event included 12 schools and 150 athletes competing in two levels and four divisions in a giant slalom course.
The boys team in the school division from Our Lady of the Bay (OLB) Catholic High School occupied the first, second, and third place spots on the podium, of course also taking the top overall finish for the division. The team includes Andrew Dorchak, Patrick Rush, Kaj Kulakowski and Jordan Moran.
The open-level girls team won top overall team and individual first, fifth, sixth, and 11th place finishes. The team included Dalila McQuay, Jules Creed, Holly Dow, Olivia Thompson,Grace Grant and Sarah Hamilton.
Good things came in threes for the OLB athletes with the open-level boys team also making the top two spots on the podium and rounding out with a fourth place finish. The open boys team includes Logan LeFeuvre, Hayden Copp, Ryder Scott, Brody Wells and Mike Rayko.
All 15 of those OLB athletes qualified for the upcoming Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations (OFSAA) Alpine Championships Feb. 26 and 17 at Osler Bluff Ski Club, hosted by Our Lady of the Bay Catholic High School.
Valentine's Day was also a big ski day for OLB with two more ski athletes qualifying for OFSAA. Maea Knights and Kenzie Wice raced in the Georgian Bay Nordic ski championships in Huntsville and earned a spot at OFSAA championships in Lakefield next week.
