On July 13 and 14, nine members of the Georgian Bay Squall participated in the 2024 Swim Ontario Masters Open Water Championships.

The weekend had a ‘festival’ atmosphere with over 700 swimmers partaking — kids (age group) and masters. Events included one-, two-, three- and five-kilometre races on beautiful Gull Lake in Gravenhurst.

Squall members brought home two bronze and one silver medal: Erich Rohman won bronze in the one-km. His brother, Kurt (in typical big brother fashion), managed to best that by winning silver in the five-km event on Sunday. Kevin Hebner proudly brought home the bronze in that five-km event.

The next Squall team event is a 33-km, ‘never attempted before’ relay swim across Georgian Bay (from Christian Island to Collingwood) in September.
