Alpine Ontario Alpin (AOA) and The Ontario Ski Team (OST) is happy to announce that the 2021 OST Summer Training Group will be hitting the snow for the first time since April 2021, as they travel to Saas-Fee to commence their summer training camp from Aug. 7 to Sept. 11, 2021.
Made up of six (6) athletes and three (3) coaches, the group this year has gone through an adapted spring selection process due to COVID-19, and have been working together since mid-May via a mix of electronic meetings and in-person meetings and workouts delivered by Ontario Ski Team, the Canadian Sport Institute Ontario (CSIO), and Active Life Conditioning Staffs.
“We are very excited to have the athletes together on snow, especially in Saas-Fee which is one of the premier venues for skiing and summer ski training in the world,” says, AOA High-Performance Director, Kip Harrington “Now that we can travel again, we are eager to take this opportunity to build our team’s culture and its sense of community through an in-person, high-performance and competitive training environment” continues Harrington.
This will be an opportunity for the athletes that have been selected from across the province to showcase their skill, performance, work ethic and commitment both in the gym and, finally, on the snow. The athletes selected for the summer training camp are:
- Kyle Blandford (Age: 18), Toronto Ski Club/SOD, returning
- Ashley Campbell (Age: 19), Georgian Peaks, returning
- Steph Currie (Age: 24), Osler Bluff/Dartmouth NCAA team, returning
- Colin Kress (Age: 18), Georgian Peaks, new
- Zach Temertzoglou (Age: 20), Georgian Peaks/SOD, returning
- Aleksas Valadka (Age: 18), Georgian Peaks/SOD, returning
“This will be the first time in months that many of our athletes have been about to touch snow, and it was important to us to work collaboratively with our partners and health officials, to implement safety measures and protocols that protect the well-being of everyone departing, while fostering a positive environment,” says Harrington. “To be able to bring all our athletes, from all levels, together for this camp is a huge accomplishment that we are very proud of” continued Harrington.
