Michael Abercrombie passed away peacefully with the assistance of Medical Assistance in Dying (MAID) following complications from mesothelioma.

Born in Toronto, Michael moved to Clarksburg in 1954 when his parents, Margret and Gerald Abercrombie, purchased Clarksburg Hardware. They later established Clarksburg Contractors, laying the foundation for what would become Michael's life's work. After completing his post-secondary education, Michael joined the family business and eventually assumed ownership, successfully leading the company until its sale in 2015.

Michael's adventurous spirit defined his life. From his early days riding ice blocks on the thawing Beaver River to racing boats in annual competitions, he embraced every moment with enthusiasm. His love for adventure manifested in long swims in the bay, cross-country motorcycle journeys, wilderness expeditions, and peaceful days on the golf course.

A devoted family man, Michael shared 43 wonderful years of marriage with his beloved wife, Sheila Thorson. He was a proud father to his daughter, Bailey Abercrombie. Michael was predeceased by his mother, Margret, his father, Gerald, and his brother Dean.

Those who knew Michael will remember him for his kindness, helpful nature, and indomitable spirit. He approached life with an unwavering dedication to living each day to its fullest, leaving behind a legacy of adventure, family devotion, and genuine compassion for others.

A private family gathering will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers donations in Mike's memory may be made to My Friend's HouseSalvation Army Collingwood Food Bank or the Collingwood General & Marine Hospital
