It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Joseph Alphonse Avery, also known as Fonzo, to those who knew him best. Alphonse passed away peacefully on Tuesday July 16, 2024, at the age of 76 surrounded by his family.
Alphonse was born on February 7, 1948, in Port Felix, NS. He was the beloved husband of Wanda Avery for 57 years. Dear father of Ellen (Stephen), Wendy (James) and Linda. Cherished grandfather of Ashley (Josh), Christina (Joseph), James (Sara), Jacqueline (Dylan), Alexander, Rebecca, Bobby, Joseph, and Samantha. Adored great-grandfather of Kira, Isis, Ryker, and Winston. Loved by his siblings Albert (Clarice), Jean-Guy (Audrey), Gloria (Ralph), Diane, and Janet (Norbert). Predeceased by his brothers Clement, Donelle, and Jean-Louis. Alphonse will be greatly missed by his closest family and friends from the church and euchre club.
Alphonse was a hardworking man who cherished life's simple pleasures, such as spending time with family, gardening, splitting wood, enjoying the outdoors, or relaxing by the fire. He could often be found in his garage, surrounded by tools and working on projects. Although Alphonse may no longer be with us, we will always carry him in our hearts.
A celebration of life will be held at the Sixth Line Church in Stayner, Ontario on Wednesday, July 24, 2024, at 2:00 pm in person and virtually. If desired, the family would greatly appreciate in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Hospice Georgian Triangle Foundation (Campbell House) in Collingwood, Ontario.
