It is with sadness that the family of Rita Bette announce her passing on May 13, 2023, at the age of 87 years. Rita passed away after a brief stay in the Wiarton hospital.
She will be lovingly remembered by her sons Tom (Cloe) Bette and Joe (Christene) Bette, and daughters Connie (Emilios) Gergolas and Judi Bette, as well as her 11 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. Rita was predeceased by her loving husband of 64 years (Len) and young daughter (Debbie), her parents and 4 siblings.
Born in Delft, Holland, in 1935, Rita immigrated to Canada in 1952 with her family and later met and fell in love with Len. They were married on December 17, 1955 and began their family in Meaford, Ontario. Rita was married to Len for almost 65 years, raising 4 children together and enjoying each other’s company through the hard times and the good ones. Her strong faith was an important part of who she was. She trusted in God’s goodness and His plans for her life, even when it was difficult to see the way through her own illnesses and the loss of her daughter Debbie. Rita held on to the knowledge that God loved her and anticipated the time when she would be reunited with Len.
Rita often ended her phone calls and visits with “I love you more!” We say that to her now, “Love you more, Mom!”
In honour of Rita’s wishes, a Celebration of Life service will be held at Collingwood Christian Reformed Church, 7642 Poplar Sideroad, Collingwood on Thursday, May 18, 2023 at 2:30 pm.
