It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Marcel de Vries on June 13th, 2024, at Collingwood General Marine Hospital.
Marcel left behind his loving wife of 49.8 years Marlene, lovingly remembered by his children Rebecca (Greg), Byron (Tania), his Grandson Hugo, his Granddogs Aria and Reni as well as many friends and family.
Born in Rotterdam, The Netherlands. While proud of his Dutch heritage Marcel took great pride in being a Canadian. He took joy in all that life offered, from listening to the birds over a morning coffee, drives to explore the countryside or grand tours around the world.
Marcel had a wide network of friends, acquaintances and colleagues from many of his interests and pursuits. He was a self-proclaimed Jack of all trades. Prior to his retirement, he was the owner and broker of record of Sutton on the Bay Realty. Marcel always ensured he provided caring guidance in one of the largest purchases an individual makes in their lifetime.
Marcel loved his family deeply and was a remarkable role model and mentor to his children. He had a way of putting people at ease and was always selfless with his time offering advice and support to those in his life.
Antiques and Collectables was more than just a passion for Marcel, and it was very common to find him looking for that ‘score’ at a weekend auction, thrift store or yard sale. He lived for the thrill of the buy and sell.
As per Marcel’s wishes cremation and a private service with immediate family has taken place. In lieu of flowers donations can be made in Marcel’s name to the Georgian Triangle Humane Society.
There will never be another man like Marcel – he was truly one of a kind! The memory of Marcel will live on in the hearts and minds of all the lives he touched.
