The Firestone family is heartbroken at the sudden loss of our father, brother, uncle, and partner, Shawn David Edward, who passed away in the ICU at Collingwood General and Marine Hospital on Friday, January 17, 2025.
With Shawn’s passing, the world has lost a kind, generous, and trusting soul, who would readily give the proverbial shirt off his back to anyone who needed it. Originally from Toronto, where he perfected his customer service skills working in the custom mens-wear business alongside first his father, Paul, and then his brother, Ari; Shawn grew to enjoy the slower pace of life in Wasaga Beach after moving here with his wife, Tracey, and son, Tyler. His happiest times were the hours he spent here fishing with Tyler and playing with his grandson, Liam, and the time he spent with family back home, especially his son, Michael, during his visits to Toronto.
Sadly, Shawn was predeceased by his younger sister, Hillary, his younger brother, Ari, and his parents, Esther and Paul. He will be sorely missed by both his family in Wasaga Beach (Tracey, Tyler, Liam, Erin, AJ, and Marilyn), and his Toronto family (sister Debbie, brothers Danny and Jay, nieces Nathalie, Courtney, and Tina, nephews Alex, Jason, Josh, Noah, Chaz, and Ross, and his nine great-nieces and nephews).
Tyler, Tracey, and Debbie were able to remain with Shawn throughout his time in the ICU, and wish to extend our gratitude to his doctor, nurses, and social worker for the kindness, support, and compassion with which they cared for him. We are also grateful to Shawn's close friend and roommate, Heather, for all she did for him in the weeks leading up to his hospitalization.
In accordance with his wishes, Shawn will be cremated with arrangements entrusted to the Carruthers & Davidson Funeral Home, Wasaga Beach. His life will be celebrated with a family gathering in Toronto later this month. In lieu of flowers, a donation in Shawn’s honour to the Hillary Firestone Ovarian Cancer Research Fund at Princess Margaret Hospital in Toronto would be appreciated.
