Mervyn William Herbert Gardner passed away peacefully at the Collingwood General & Marine Hospital with family by his side on Sunday November 10, 2024, at the age of 85.

He is deeply loved by his wife of 60 years Betty (nee Monaghan) and their children Mark (Alison Walker) Gardner and Lisa (Dan) Switzer.

Merv was raised on the family farm in Maxwell. Son of the late Herbert Gardner and Ida and Percy McMullen. He is predeceased by his brother Howard (Blanche) Gardner. He will be remembered fondly by his nieces and nephews.

Merv lived a full and happy life. He was a man of many talents and was always up for a new challenge. He had a sharp mind; he loved learning new things and figuring out a problem when something did not work.

Starting at a young age, Merv knew the importance of hard work. From heavy equipment operator, custom home builder to opening his own business Colling-wood Flooring Specialist in 1990. He was a skilled and passionate woodworker and was incredibly proud to work alongside his daughter Lisa.

Merv had a strong faith and trust in God. He was an active member of his church community and believed in giving back and helping others.

Merv’s family was at the heart of his life, and he was happiest when he was surrounded by those he loved. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered for his kindness, bright smile, and his penchant for telling stories.

Funeral service will be held at First Baptist Church, 205 Oak St. in Stayner at 11 a.m. on Friday November 15, 2024, with visitation one hour prior. A reception will follow in the church hall. Interment at Maxwell Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to First Baptist Church in Mervyn’s memory.
