Passed suddenly at the Collingwood General & Marine Hospital on Tuesday, February 4, 2025 at the age of 80. Hammy, of Wasaga Beach, was the beloved husband of Marina (nee Givan) for 55 years. Loving father of Heather (Shawn) and Derek (Pam). Cherished grandfather of Weston, Zoey and Kyle. Lovingly remembered by his sister Margaret, his extended family and many friends.

Starting his career as a Police officer in Northern Ireland to a Firefighter with the city of York when he and Renee immigrated to Canada. He afforded Renee to stay home with the kids through a second job as a truck driver. Work stayed at work and he was present with his family and friends outside of this.

Hammy was lucky to retire many years ago and to continue to serve his community. He kept busy with volunteer driving for Children’s Aid, Cancer Society and Red Cross.

He was always very active - most recently travelling to warm places, bee keeping and sharing honey with Wasaga Beach, gardening, wine making, biscuit baking, card playing, hunting, fishing and trying to master golf. In the past a piper in a championship band, a whittler, wood worker, ice rink maker, dog lover and crisp baker.

You could always find Hammy outside puttering. From sun up to sun down, the garage was open and he was somewhere in the area. Chatting with neighbours, taking care of everyone’s grass and snow, in the honey house or having garage drinks with his friends. He had a quick whit, smile and a strong handshake for everyone he met.

Hammy loved and is loved by many and will be severely missed. If you take anything from this note, do the thing, learn the skill, sit down with your friends, hug the people you love and live your life to the fullest as Hammy did. Until we meet again, Sláinte.

Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to the Carruthers & Davidson Funeral Home, 509 River Road West, Wasaga Beach. No formal services will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Hammy to the Wasaga Beach Ministerial Food Bank or Boots on the Ground providing mental health support for first responders would be appreciated by the family.
