It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Michael Giffen, a devoted husband, father, brother, and friend, who left us far too soon following a farm accident on Friday February 21, 2025.
Mike is survived by his loving wife and best friend, Kim (nee Stockdale), and their three sons, William, Lucas, and Jack. He was a proud brother to Lori (Paul Pitcher) and a cherished uncle to Kaden. He is also survived by his father-in-law Russell Stockdale (Gloria Gatti) sister-in-law Kara Parrish (Jayson Cox), brother-in-law Richard Stockdale, sister-in-law Madison Stockdale, nieces Sabrina (Billy), Hanna, nephew, Chris (Sarah), and great-niece Bridgette. He is predeceased by his parents Bob and Colleen Giffen and remembered by aunts, uncles and extended family.
A dedicated educator for many years, Mike retired from the school board to carry on the legacy of the family businesses and farm, an endeavor he loved with all his heart. The farm was a place of joy and fulfillment for him, where he found peace in the land and a connection to his roots. As a teacher, he inspired and nurtured his students, and supported his colleagues with his genuine kindness, care, and natural ability to make others feel seen and heard. He was deeply committed to his community, actively volunteering through the Rotary Club of Collingwood South Georgian Bay and in his business endeavors, always striving to give back to those around him.
A proud member of the local Beinn Gorm Highlanders and Commissioner's Own Pipes and Drums of the Ontario Provincial Police Bands, Mike was passionate about sharing his love for music and culture with others. His presence in the community and his unwavering support for those he cared about will be profoundly missed.
Mike leaves behind a large circle of friends who will mourn his loss deeply. His legacy of kindness, generosity, and service to others will never be forgotten.
A service of remembrance will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, March 4, 2025, at the Georgian Bay Hotel Collingwood. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Collingwood General & Marine Hospital, Rotary Foundation of Canada or the Beinn Gorm Highlanders.
