Passed away peacefully at the Collingwood General & Marine Hospital on Friday, February 14, 2025, at the age of 76 after a courageous battle against cancer.
Richard, of Wasaga Beach and formerly a longtime resident of Alcona, was the beloved husband of Huguette (née Pitre) for over 55 years. Loving father of Paul (Jen), Monique (Jeff), and Micheline (Mike). Cherished grandfather of Jordan (Jake), Nick (Stephanie), Jacob, Sophia, Clark, Taylor, Trent, Carley, Tegan, and Kamryn. Treasured great-grandfather of Jax, Ava, Caleb, and soon-to-arrive Baby Girl Davis. Dear brother of Susan (Daniel). Predeceased by his parents Primo and Alice (née Benoit). Lovingly remembered by his extended family and many friends.
Richard was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting, but his greatest passion was fishing—a love he eagerly passed down to his children and grandchildren. A skilled handyman, he could fix just about anything and took pride in patiently sharing his knowledge with family and friends, always approaching life with practicality and wisdom. His family learned invaluable lessons from him, ones they will carry forward forever.
A lifelong Toronto Maple Leafs fan, Richard could always be found cheering them on every Saturday night. He also loved playing cards with friends and family, bringing laughter to every game. Traveling with his family brought him joy, and his witty sense of humor ensured there was never a dull moment. His family will forever cherish these memories with him.
Richard was deeply loved by his family and his love and wisdom will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
Friends are invited to join the family at the Carruthers & Davidson Funeral Home, 509 River Road West, Wasaga Beach, for a come-and-go celebration of Richard’s life on Saturday, March 1, 2025, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. If desired, donations in memory of Richard to the Collingwood General & Marine Hospital Foundation or the Hospice Georgian Triangle Foundation for Campbell House Hospice would be appreciated by the family.
