January 1, 1949 – December 6, 2024
It is with heavy hearts that the family of Jim Hammond announces his sudden passing on Friday December 6, 2024 at the age of 75 at the Collingwood General & Marine Hospital.
Jim will be deeply missed by his beloved wife and best friend Shirley (nee McInnis).
He was the loving and caring father of Jimmy and Danielle (Kevin York) and proud Papa of Ava and Audrey Hammond.
Jim was the son of the late Harry and Violet Hammond. He will be dearly missed by his brother Bob (Kathy) and sisters Marilyn (Paul McInnes) and Carolyn (Dan Collings) and was predeceased by his brothers John, Ken, Reg, Tom and Tim.
He will be remembered fondly by his brothers and sisters in law, nieces, nephews and their families.
Jim married his soulmate and love of his life, Shirley in 1970 and they spent 54 beautiful years together, raising their family in Collingwood.
Jim started working at LOF Glass in 1969, demonstrating his hard work ethic and commitment, he became an apprentice Electrician. In 1976 he completed his schooling. He loved working with the equipment and machinery, he was a problem solver and could fix just about anything. He worked himself through many positions, from the floor to management and ended his career at the plant in 2002 as a Process Engineer.
Not one to be idle, following his retirement from LOF Jim worked a season at Duntroon Highlands, a couple years at Blue Mountain and then Sunset Manor. It was here that he found himself building special connections with residents and staff alike; he truly loved his role in the maintenance department and was sad at age 70 when he decided to retire.
At his core, Jim was a family man! He loved spending time with those he loved. He was so proud of his kids and especially his two granddaughters; they were the true light of his life.
If you knew Jim, you know that he loved to fish. No matter the season, he could be found at a local fishing hole. If not, the fish it was the company of his friends that kept him in this daily routine. His many ice fishing trips with friends and son Jimmy brought him great joy.
Jim loved boating, being on the water, swimming, dock-tails and dinners with great friends. Summer weekends were spent enjoying Georgian Bay.
He was quiet, strong, genuine and kind. Jim enjoyed an incredibly blessed life and will be forever remembered by those he touched.
