It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Thomas Anthony LeMarchant Hutchesson on Thursday January 16, 2025, at the age of 77. Tom was born on August 6, 1947, on the island of Guernsey in the Channel Islands and immigrated to Canada with his mother as a youth. He passed peacefully, surrounded by family, after a courageous 15-year battle with cancer.
Our family is forever grateful to the incredible medical teams who gave him so many extra years with us: the dedicated professionals at Princess Margaret Hospital, the oncology team at Royal Victoria Health Centre, and the compassionate staff at Campbell House – Hospice Georgian Triangle. Their care and empathy brought comfort in his final days.
Tom leaves behind his beloved daughter Elizabeth, his son Mike (Sarah), and his cherished grandchildren Ben, Emily, and Evelyn. He is predeceased by his beloved wife, Marian, to whom he was deeply devoted. He cared for her with unwavering love and dedication until her passing in May 2024. His faithful dog, Ranger, and grand-pup, Darwin, will miss his presence and companionship.
Throughout his life, Tom was a trailblazer in the real estate appraisal profession, a respected member of the Appraisal Institute of Canada for over 50 years. He was deeply involved in his community, dedicating his time as a long-time member of the Rotary Club of Wasaga Beach and Area, the Collingwood Ski Club, and the Collingwood Yacht Club.
Tom lived his life to the fullest, embracing adventure and camaraderie. An avid downhill skier, a passionate sailor, and the proud captain of his beloved boat, the Slimer, he found joy on both land and sea. He was a certified scuba diver, taking countless memorable trips to the Caribbean for deep-sea diving. A lifelong motorcycle enthusiast, he relished his time in Florida, riding with friends and soaking up the open road.
A devoted fan of the Toronto Blue Jays, Tom never missed a game and delighted in traveling with friends to different cities to cheer on his team. Known as "Mr. Fix-It," he could always be found in his garage, repairing motorcycles, tinkering with tractors, or crafting something new simply because he thought it was "neat." His ability to build and create was matched only by his generosity in sharing his skills with others.
Tom was the life of the party, a man whose laughter and warmth filled every room. But above all, his greatest joy and accomplishment was being a devoted father and grandfather. He was the rock of our family, a hero to his grandchildren, always building, creating, and finding new ways to make their lives magical.
We have lost an irreplaceable presence in our lives, but Tom’s spirit will live on in the memories we cherish and the love he gave so freely. His legacy is one of strength, kindness, and an unwavering zest for life.
A celebration of Tom’s life will be held in the early summer. In lieu of flowers, Tom had jokingly requested that everyone send a bottle of their favorite booze, but we would like to ask for donations to Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation or Hospice Georgian Triangle in his memory.
Fair winds and following seas, Captain Tom. May your sails always be full and your adventures never-ending.
