Our beautiful mother, Margaret Islay Jerry (nee Trotter) went home to be with her loving Lord Jesus Christ on March 6, 2025, at age 89. She passed away due to Alzheimer’s Disease while living under the caring and kindness of the wonderful staff of Creedan Valley Community in Creemore, Ontario.
Born October 16, 1935, in Saint Laurent, Quebec to Lewis and Elizabeth May Trotter (nee Scott), Margaret grew up the youngest of her siblings: June, Scott, and Robert Trotter. She attended Saint Laurent high school and was very involved in various forms of dance such as tap, ballet and highland dancing. She was a highly accomplished ballerina in her own right, even teaching ballet to others by age thirteen.
On February 20, 1953, she married Raymond Roger Jerry of Verdun, Quebec. They made their home and raised their family in Saint Laurent and Pointe Claire on the West Island of Montreal. She was a dedicated homemaker and loving mother to Michael, Elizabeth, Alan, Robert, Sandra, and Alison.
Margaret was in her early twenties when she, along with her husband Roger, both came to put all their faith, hope, and trust in Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. Margaret loved music and she loved to sing. Through the years, she sang in the choir, served on church boards, taught Sunday School, led Bible studies, and offered warm hospitality to everyone she met.
Wherever she went she had a knack for noticing other people who might need a friend. She was known for going up to people, warmly introducing herself, and drawing those people in by her friendliness, caring, and kindness. Through her letter writing and phone calls, she was well known for keeping in close touch with far away friends and family.
Mom loved interior design and décor, and she delighted in home decorating and renovations. With every move she made, she would dive in with her creative flair, giving each new home her signature touches. She just loved to move as each time it gave her the opportunity to start a new project!
In the early years, there were many moves around the West Island of Montreal. But in the 1980s, when our father’s company relocated to Toronto, mom and dad ventured west to live in Ontario. They first settled in Mississauga, then to Stayner, Midhurst, Barrie, Collingwood, and lastly for mom, to Creemore.
Our immediate family has lived far and wide for many years and mom did her very best to stay connected with all of us. Her love for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren was deep and unwavering – we all felt her love and are forever grateful for the legacy of kindness and caring she has left with each of us.
Margaret is survived by four of her children: Michael (Laurel) of Raymond, Maine, Alan of Powell River, BC, Sandra of Vancouver, BC, and Alison (Vic) of Collingwood, ON; eleven grandchildren: Gabriel, Jesse, Deirdre (Manuel), Ethan (Charlyn), Corey (Torri), Shawna, Gabrielle; Miguel, Emily, Jeffrey, and Charlotte; and eleven great- grandchildren: Eli, Anatole, Anaiah, Roberto, Laurel, Max, Mila, James, Josephine, William, and Norah. Fondly remembered and deeply missed by her nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Margaret was predeceased by her husband Roger, her parents, her siblings, and two of her six children: Elizabeth (stillborn) and Robert (who died of cancer at age three).
Friends are invited to join the family at the Chatterson Funeral Home, 404 Hurontario Street, Collingwood on Thursday March 13, 2025 for visitation from 12 noon for the celebration of life service in the chapel at 1pm. A light reception will follow. Margaret will be interred alongside her husband Roger in the spring at the Barrie Union Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Margaret to the Alzheimer Society would be appreciated by the family. To sign Margaret’s Book of Memories, please visit www.chattersonfuneralhome.com
