Bernice passed away peacefully on Saturday June 22, 2024, at the Gardens of Wasaga Beach.
She leaves to mourn her beloved husband of 64 years Donald Kolkea.
Bernice will be remembered as the proud and loving mother of Sandra Stewart (Paul Hewitt) and Trevor Kolkea (Liz Hill) and grandmother of Shawn Stewart (Nicole), Ryan Stewart (Alexis Leigh), Shelly Stewart (Dustin Coulter), Oliver and Zoe Kolkea. Cherished great grandmother of Jack, Thomas, Harley, Leigh and Joyce.
One of six children born to parents Neil and Elva Gillies, Bernice is survived by her sister Verna Murray and sister-in-law Karen Gillies. Predeceased by brothers Rodger (Nancy) and Neil and sisters Irene (John) Habgood and Betty (Don) MacMurchy. She will be remembered by many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Bernice will also be remembered by friends, neighbours, colleagues and students as a long time caring and dedicated teacher.
The family wishes to thank the staff at The Gardens of Wasaga Beach, for their excellent care during the short time Bernice was there and to Tara and the nurses from St. Elizabeth’s for their kindness and care over Bernice’s final days.
Family and friends will be received for visitation at Fawcett Funeral Home – Collingwood Chapel on Tuesday July 2, 2024, from 6-8 p.m. Funeral service will be held in the chapel at 2 p.m. on Wednesday July 3, 2024. Interment at Westmount Baptist Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the St. Elizabeth Foundation or the Heart and Stroke Foundation in Bernice’s memory.
