Died peacefully following a private battle with cancer on Tuesday October 29, 2024 at the General & Marine Hospital, Collingwood at the age of 66.
Ilona of Wasaga Beach, beloved wife of David Matthews for almost 40 years, Loving mother of Aaron (Kristen den Bok), Dolena Matthews and stepmother of Colin Matthews. Dear sister of Anna (Richard Holloway) and the late Emma Mozes and sister-in-law of Gloria (Rick Keith). She will also be missed by her many nieces and nephews, her many friends and neighbours. Ilona was a dynamic woman who cherished her family and her community. Her passion for educating and teaching children to read was a lifelong commitment.
She was a talented seamstress, enjoyed cooking and playing cards, had varied tastes in music and movies and kept her finger on the pulse of the political goings on in Wasaga Beach and beyond. You would often find Ilona at a committee meeting for the Climate Action committee, other community events, but her favourite place was anywhere she was surrounded by her family. She will be deeply missed.
