Born November 9, 1939, Kay was the second of seven children of Malcolm and Grace MacDonald and grew up on the family farm in McIntyre. After graduating from Dundalk High School, Kay enrolled in a diploma program in nursing, but left her studies, early, when she married Donald (Don) Alexander McKean, in 1958.
The couple settled in Collingwood, where daughter, Cynthia, and sons David, Stephen and Kevin were born. Kay devoted herself to being a stay-at-home mom and homemaker.
In the early 1980s, Kay and Don, along with their youngest son, Kevin, relocated to Nottawa where the couple enjoyed village life for over forty years. In the Fall of 2024, they returned to Collingwood and moved to Pretty River Retirement Residence.
A life-long reader, Kay volunteered at the Collingwood Public Library for many years. She also devoted countless hours to the Emmanuel Presbyterian Church, in Nottawa, where she was a long-time congregant and member of the choir. Kay enjoyed spending time with her extended family and friends and had a special place in her heart for chocolate.
Kay is survived by her husband, Don, of sixty-six years; children, Cynthia (Doug), David (Heidi), Stephen, and Kevin; grandchildren, Elli (Andrew), Cameron, and Brent (Emma); as well as sister, Margaret (the late John) and brother, Paul.
She was predeceased by her siblings, Jeanette (the late Jack), Neil, Linda, and Wilson (Kathleen).
A Celebration of Life is planned for the Spring. Donations in Kay’s memory may be made to a charity of choice. Friends may visit Kay's online Book of Memories at www.fawcettfuneralhomes.com
