Sandra has been an active member of the community throughout her life. Starting with the Trinity United Church, filling many roles in the church Sunday School and with Unit 4 of the Ladies Auxiliary raising money for church projects. On the Home & School Committee of Connaught Public School helping to raise money for school projects. Served 4 years as Treasurer for the Collingwood Red Cross. Also served as Treasurer for Hospice Georgian Triangle in the early days of that organization and more recently as a volunteer at Campbell House. Sandra spent 16 years as a volunteer as a committee member and ultimately on the Board of Directors of the General and Marine Hospital Foundation raising funds for the many capital needs of the hospital.
Her proudest project was the establishment of the Tree of Life annual campaign, still a main fundraiser for the Foundation today. Under the leadership of Dr. Bruce McFarland, a branch of the Taoist Tai Chi Society was established in Collingwood. Sandra joined and became a long-time member of the local club serving in many capacities on the Council. She had a great love of this Taoist art and became a follower for many years, accepting a request to instruct which she kept up for most of her years with the Collingwood branch. Once again Sandra put her fundraising skill to work to raise funds for various needs of the club. She also volunteered on both the Supervisory Committee and the Board of Directors of the Collingwood Credit Union.
She later went on to be employed at the Credit Union for 5 years. Following graduation from Collingwood Collegiate Institute, Sandra was employed in the office of the Principal for 3 years. She ended her working life employed by the local land surveyors, Zubeck, Emo & Patten for 23 years. Always interested in the development of the community she was born and raised in, Sandra spent 14 years as a member of the Committee of Adjustment and Property Standards Committee for the Town of Collingwood.
