Died peacefully on Thursday March 6, 2025 at Campbell House Hospice at the age of 86. George was born in Collingwood, Ontario on March 16, 1938. He was married to Muriel McPherson (nee Bullock). Their greatest desire after they married was to go to New Guinea as missionaries with Wycliffe Bible Translators. After taking training at Summer Institute of Linguistics in Norman, Oklahoma, they prepared for Jungle Camp in Mexico. At this time, the Lord shut the door for New Guinea and opened the door to go on staff at Prairie Bible Institute in Three Hills, Alberta. George, Muriel and their children; Wendy, Cathy, Scott and Dorothy, served there for 15 years before moving to Ontario when their daughter Wendy needed a kidney transplant. George was a carpenter and he loved to help young men with their projects. The motto he lived by was “the greatest blessing is to be a blessing”. George welcomed every opportunity to share God’s plan of salvation with friends and family.
George is lovingly remembered by beloved wife Muriel of 64 years. Children; the late Wendy, Cathy, Scott and Dorothy (the late Mike). Grandchildren; Melissa (Brandon), Chris (Laura), Jordy (Maddy), Julie, Ben and Daniel. Great-grandchildren; Lily, Colton, Jacob, Evan and Evy. Siblings; Dawn (the late Arnold), Peter (Mary), Patty (Paul), Linda (Roy), the late Danny and Gwen (Dan).
A visitation will be held at Sixth Line Church, 1152 Concession 6 North, Stayner, Ontario on Saturday, March 15, 2025 from 10:00am – 12:30pm followed by a celebration of life at 1 o’clock with Pastor Dennis Ball officiating. Interment will take place at a later date at the West Nottawasaga Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
Memorial donations in George’s honour may be made directly through Carruthers & Davidson Funeral Home or the Sixth Line Church.
