Passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Thursday June 13, 2024, at Royal Victoria Hospital, at the age of 76.
Don is survived by his devoted wife Gail (nee Dempster) of 52 years. Loving father of John (Angela) and David (Nicole). Proud Papa of Ethan, Evan, Sophia and Patrick. Predeceased by his parents Peter and Ada, sister and brother-in-law Diana (Robert) Ridel and sister Evelyn Pritchard. Don will be greatly missed by his brother-in-law Bob (Gail) Dempster and many nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Don was involved with Scouts Canada for over 25 years and received the order of Collingwood in 2006. He had a passion for the outdoors and enjoyed hiking, camping and belonged to a model train club. He coached baseball for many years and was extremely proud to coach in both special Olympics baseball and swimming. He was a devoted worker at LOF and after his retirement drove for many years with Sinton Bus Lines and The Canadian Red Cross.
As per the family’s request Cremation has taken place and a graveside service will be held at Trinity United Church Cemetery, 8011 Poplar Sideroad, Collingwood on Saturday, July 20th at 11am with a reception to follow at the Collingwood Leisure Time Club, 100 Minnesota Street. In Don’s memory, memorial donations may be made to the Collingwood General and Marine Hospital Foundation or the charity of your choice. Many thanks to the doctors, nurses and staff at CGMH and RVH.
