In Loving Memory of Larry Kenneth Mighton

It is with a mix of sadness and fond memories that we announce the passing of Larry Kenneth Mighton, who left us suddenly and peacefully on Wednesday, November 13, 2024, while doing what he loved on a hunting trip. Larry, of Stayner, lived a full and vibrant life, bringing joy, laughter, and love to all who knew him. He was 77 years old.

Larry was born in Hanover on January 17, 1947. At an early age, he moved to Durham, where he attended Spruce Ridge School. On September 18, 1965, Larry married Irene McDonald in Durham, beginning 25 years of marriage. In 1967, Larry and Irene moved to Wasaga Beach, where his parents, Doris and Kenneth, purchased a home and land to establish the family business, Mightons Well Drilling. Larry and his brother Terry joined their parents in building the business, which would become a 59-year legacy.

Beloved father of Bonnie (Graham Scott), Jeff (Kim), Jennifer (John Deer), Denise Mighton, and Sareena (Brent Caswell), Larry was also the cherished Papa Larry to 20 grandchildren: Matthew, Nathan, Levi, Taylor, Adam, Andrew, Benjamin, Joshua, Jordan, Bethany, Jesse, James, Aaron, Amberly, Brodie, Serenity-Lyn, Haley, Chantalle, Jocelinn, and Dustin, and 12 great-grandchildren. He shared the later years of his life with Trace Illingworth and maintained a cordial relationship with his former wife and mother of his children, Irene Mighton. Larry is predeceased by his brother Terry and his parents, Kenneth and Doris.
Larry was a hardworking and dedicated man, deeply rooted in his community. Known for his knack for “wheeling and dealing,” Larry had an unmistakable presence at local coffee shops and restaurants, always staying connected to the heartbeat of the community.

A man of many passions, Larry enjoyed hunting, camping, riding his ATV and motorcycle, and caring for his livestock. He also loved hosting gatherings in his backfield, where family and friends created countless cherished memories. Larry’s unique sense of humor and his ability to lovingly tease his grandchildren will be fondly remembered by all who knew him.

To honor Larry’s legacy, a Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, November 23rd at 1-3pm at the Stayner Community Centre. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Clearview-Stayner Food Bank. Cash or food donations can be brought to the celebration, where collection bins will be provided.

Larry’s life was one filled with adventure, laughter, and love. He will be missed dearly but remembered always.
