March 14, 1934 – December 5, 2024
It is with profound sadness that the family of Daniel Molloy announces his sudden passing on Thursday December 5, 2024 at the Collingwood General & Marine Hospital.
Dan had his family by his side and he’ll be missed deeply by his wife of 64 years Geraldine (nee Regan).
He was the loving father to four boys; Sean and his wife Kirsten, D’Arcy (predeceased), Patrick and Ryan.
Dan was the son of the late Henry & Bernadette Molloy of Toronto, Ontario
Dan was the baby in his family and brother to the late Henry “Bud” Molloy and his wife Ruth and the late Gloria (nee Molloy) and her surviving husband Jack Garbutt.
Dan will be missed by those he cared most about, his grandchildren, Bryn Molloy & Garritt Molloy (Sean/Kirsten), his estranged grandchild Elliot Molloy (D’Arcy) and Sophie Molloy (Ryan).
Dan moved his family from Toronto to this little town called Collingwood on the shores of the Nottawasaga Bay in 1969 to work for a Runnymede Highschool friend named Barry Loft. Working for Barry allowed him to hone the skill of being an entrepreneur. Dan had many ventures down this road where he had the privilege to meet and work with like minded people like Rad Whithead and Richard Golby buying, renovating and selling property around town.
His true passion was fulfilled when he ventured into becoming an insurance broker by taking a job locally with Blazey & Freethy Insurance Brokers. Dan eventually purchased the brokerage and with a quick name change ran a small independent brokerage until he sold it to pursue retirement.
Dan was a husband, father, uncle, a grandparent and friend to the countless who indulged his many pursuits in life. Pursuits were something he had an unquenchable thirst for. Dan coached local minor hockey. He was an avid sailor who loved being on the water. So much so he got lost in a fog while heading out of Owen Sound sailing overnight to Collingwood. Funny enough he gave up sailing to pursue golf at Blue Mountain Golf and Country. Wednesday was Men’s Day which were legendary around his home because he was dragged away to get into trouble at the hands of his best buddies John Bulmer, Gord Cation and Fred Potts. Thursday mornings during the season were never fun for Dan.
In simple terms Dan was a family man, a presence, who was proud of his family and the life he created here. He never did get over the tragic loss of his son, ‘no parent wants a child to go before them’, be he persevered through it all with his head held high.
He was humble, never wanting recognition for anything. He had a strong morale compass, deep values and was blessed to have lived a full and complete life. He will be remembered by everyone who graced his presence.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Collingwood General & Marine Hospital or to Hospice Georgian Triangle in Collingwood would be appreciated.
