It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Shirley Rosemary Montgomery, a cherished wife, mother, grandmother and friend at the age of 90 on Saturday December 7 th at Hospice Georgian Triangle.

Shirley was born on July 27, 1934 in Yorkshire, England. In 1945 her family moved to London where she attended Grey Coat School in Westminster and later college where she trained to become a secretary. In 1957, she married Doug Skelding, and in 1960 Doug was transferred through his work to Toronto Canada. Doug sadly passed away in 1978 after a heart attack.

In 1983, Shirley married Ernest Montgomery. and they continued to live in Etobicoke. In 1991, Shirley and Ernest purchased a small cottage in Collingwood and upon Ernest’s retirement in 1999 they had the cottage pulled down and their retirement house built. Shirley and Ernest enjoyed an active social life in Collingwood with the church and Probus.

They travelled extensively both before and after retirement and in recent years Shirley was always proud to say that she had travelled to 84 countries.

Predeceased by her parents William and Ann Idle and sister Pam (Graham), she is survived by her husband Ernest, daughter Fiona Barach (Jed), son Neil Skelding (Lisa), her stepchildren Ian Montgomery (Tanya), Jason Montgomery (Lorraine) and Kimberley Montgomery as well as Granddaughters Sarah, Sydney, Samantha, Parker, and Sloane.
