It is with great sadness that the family of James Garnett Quirk announce his passing on Friday September 20, 2024, at Campbell House in Collingwood at the age of 87.
Forever remembered by his wife Sheila, daughter Mandy and her husband Doug Butters, Pamela, and Darryl and his wife Kristine. Cherished GP of Alec, Kate, Ryan and Hayden. The oldest of 7, Jim will be sadly missed by his brother Paul, sisters Mary and Joanne and her husband Bob Millman. Predeceased by his brother Mike, sisters Sheila and Judy and his parents Michael and Violet. “Quirky” will be forever remembered by everyone that was lucky enough to have been blessed with his smile and kindness.
Jim was born in London and moved to Collingwood in 1968 to become a partner at Gaviller & Company Chartered Accountants. He loved life, his family and friends, many of whom he met in Collingwood and remained lifelong friends.
In his younger years he enjoyed playing slow pitch and coaching his children’s sports teams. He loved being out on the boat in Georgian Bay and had many wonderful trips with his boating friends. He was an avid skier which led to many ski vacations, and he could often be found at blue mountain along with the staff from Gavillers getting a few runs in over the lunch hour.
Jim also enjoyed volunteering. He helped his daughter bring the first MS walk to Collingwood and was a member of the volunteer committee for many years. He delivered meals on wheels and prepared tax returns for seniors at the Contact Centre. In retirement Jim enjoyed golfing, curling and bridge. He was a lifelong Blue Jays fan and enjoyed travelling to the Worlds Series as he loved a good road trip. Later into his retirement he enjoyed meeting for Tuesday morning coffee and looked forward to meeting the guys for Thursday afternoon scotch.
Jim’s family would like to give special thanks to the two agencies Health@Home and Saint Elizabeth as well as the nurses at Campbell House for their excellent care and support.
Visitation will take place on Thursday September 26, 2024, from 6-8 in the evening at Fawcett Funeral Homes, Collingwood Chapel, 82 Pine Street. A Memorial Mass will be held on Friday September 27, 2024, at 10:30 am at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, 63 Elgin Street, Collingwood.
