We are saddened to announce the death of John David Szewczyk on Monday, May 22nd, 2023. He passed peacefully at age 82, in the home he built in Collingwood. John was a beloved husband, father, and grandfather, who was supported by his family until the very end.
John was born in South Porcupine, where he worked in the mines and at Teen Town Dances, where he met the love of his life, Fern. John and Fern were married for 59 wonderful years, living and working in Kitchener, and retiring in Collingwood. John loved to travel with Fern. One of his favourite places to see was Nashville, because of his passion for music. He also enjoyed the outdoors and cycling with his wife and friends. John also loved to intellectually challenge himself. As a self-taught electrician, he found joy in learning to fix electronics for others. He was always ready and willing to help friends and family.
John was a wonderful man who will be cherished in the hearts of his family. He is survived by his wife Fern, his eldest daughter Carrie, his youngest daughter Michelle, her husband Tommi, and his grandchildren Tia and Allie. John also had a love for Carrie’s dog JJ, who he loved to take care of. He is predeceased by his mother Anastasia and father George Szewczyk, and his brothers Joe and George.
When John spoke, his sharp sense of humour enlightened all who knew him.
For being a quiet man, his absence is deafening.
