Mary Elizabeth Trillo (nee Hanna)
It is with heavy hearts that we share that Mary passed away September 12th at Collingwood hospital with her children by her side.
She will be deeply missed by daughter, Sandi Trillo and son, Troy (Liz) Trillo, as well as her many friends and nephew and nieces: Dave (Jenn) Hanna, Marg (Ron) Alderson, Marianne (Steve) Hare, and Nancy (Ian) McDowell. She was great aunt to Tyler (Rita) and Lindsay (Mo); Becky (Eric) and Robbie (Kristen); Katie (Brandon) and Jonathan; Chris, Dexter and Mason. Mary was predeceased by husband, Ed Trillo, her brother Jack (Libby) Hanna, and parents Albert and Blanche (Donaldson) Hanna.
Born and raised in Toronto, mom loved kids and worked as kindergarten assistant at JRR. Weekends and holidays were spent mostly at Stemhaus cottage at the base of Blue Mountain, which she built with Ed in 1963. Mary retired there in 2000 to socialize with friends old and new who shared her passion for skiing, golf and tennis. While the skiing stuck with both of us kids, we never quite got into chasing that little white ball around.
A force of nature and the backbone of our family, Mary was a generous, loving, fun and supportive mom. We are so grateful to have her with us into her mid-80s. She lived by her own rules and always delivered the straight goods with a wry eye and sly dose of humour. She connected easily with others and is warmly remembered by many long-time friends.
While she hated flying, she was a keen traveller and organized many family ski trips and other adventures. She travelled often with one or both of us, friends and sometimes solo. Some favourite adventures included Alaska, Ecuador/Peru, Japan, Switzerland, Hawaii, Morocco, Southern Africa, and Nepal.
For nearly 20 years Mary was a dedicated volunteer at Habitat for Humanity's ReStore in Collingwood. She worked on several Habitat builds, wielding tools she'd used in the building and maintenance of Stemhaus.
Fuelled mostly by chocolate and fresh air, Mary was a fixture on the hills of Blue for over 60 years, into 2021. She only started to slow down over the past year due to a combination of health issues. We are grateful for the support of the incredibly busy, cheerful and dedicated medical team.
Mary supported a wide range of local and global causes. In lieu of flowers, she requested friends make a donation to a charity of their choice.
Family/friends are invited to gather to share memories and raise a glass to Mary outside at Stemhaus (103 Lucille Wheeler Lane, Blue Mountains) Sunday Sept. 19, 1-3 PM. Please bring a mask. We will have some chairs and glasses and encourage you to bring your own if that would make you feel more comfortable. Parking is available nearby, but not on Lucille Wheeler Lane.
Arrangements entrusted to Chatterson Funeral Home, Collingwood. To sign Mary’s Book of Memories, please visit www.chattersonfuneralhome.com
