With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Hans Van Zanten on Monday November 4, 2024 at the age of 78 surrounded by his loving family at Sunset Manor in Collingwood. He was born in Rotterdam, Netherland and immigrated to Canada at the age of 2 1/2.
Hans retired to Wasaga Beach and was a beloved and devoted husband to Barbara (nee Ward). He was predeceased by his parents Frederika and Martinus Van Zanten and mother-in-law Louise (Nina) Ward and survived by his Father-in-law Bradford Ward. He was a loving father to Martin Van Zanten and Ronald Ward (Tammy). A cherished grandfather to Marcus, Taylor and Emma. Loving brother to Dorothea (Marcus Cummins) and brother-in-law to Robert (Adelaide), Brad, Brian (Randy), Mark (Jacqueline) and uncle to Wesley, Travis, Jeffrey, Christopher and Ashley. Hans will be greatly missed by his many family and friends. A special thank you to his neighbour Ted, who was a true friend and shared his love of hockey.
Hans was a larger than life man who made friends easily. He lit up every room he entered, and his outgoing nature endeared him to many. People always gravitated towards him and he left an impression on everyone who knew him. He had a long career of over 35 years as an air traffic controller with Nav Canada where he had many lifelong friends. Hans was known as the ‘Flying Dutchman’ and operated a charter fishing business in Lake Ontario for many years. He loved to fish and he did so every opportunity he could. He was an active outdoorsman who enjoyed, hunting, golf, hockey, curling and had a passion for travel. Although he will be deeply missed, his memory will remain. His family would like to thank all those who have offered their love and support through this difficult time. A Memorial Service will be held at the Carruthers & Davidson Funeral Home - Wasaga Beach Chapel, on Friday November 29, 2024 at 11 o'clock. Reception to follow.
