Douglas “Doug” M. Young, died suddenly on October 13, 2024, at the age of 71.

He was the beloved husband of 51 years of Charlene (nee Goheen); loving father of Trish Swiderski (Joe), Shaun, and Ange Loughnan (Todd John); and the number one fan and grandfather of Adam Loughnan and Zach, Sydney & Brielle Swiderski.

He was the son of Jean Young (nee Aiken), twin brother of Diane Daly (John), and older brother of Keith Young.  He was also the loving uncle to many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father Raymond S. Young and grandson Andrew Loughnan.

Doug was born on May 2, 1953, in Collingwood, Ontario and spent most of his adult life in Owen Sound. Doug met Charlene, the love of his life, while working at Loblaws during high school.  They were married on St. Patrick’s Day in 1973, and they loved travelling to warmer climates and the Caribbean Islands.  He was a loyal and hard-working employee of Loblaws and Zehrs, and Doug finished his working career at Walmart - where he served as produce manager and assistant store manager until his retirement. Doug enjoyed reading James Patterson novels, but most of all, he loved spending time with his family. He especially enjoyed attending the sporting events of his children and grandchildren and learning about Adam’s latest car project. When not supporting the grandchildren, he was always up for a good game of cards or dice, and more often than not, he would win.

After retirement, he took up fishing and watching NCIS and HGTV.  He was also an avid Raptors fan and rarely missed a game.

Doug was a quiet soul and would always be the first to lend a hand with a smile.  He was a friend to all, and there was never a project he wouldn’t tackle.

The family will hold a Celebration of Life visitation on November 2, 2024 at the Owen Sound Legion from 12-4pm.

In lieu of flowers, any donations can be made in Doug’s honour to The Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation. Friends may visit Doug's online Book of Memories at www.fawcettfuneralhomes.com
