A drug trafficking investigation by Huronia West OPP has led to charges being laid against an Innisfil resident.
Police began the investigation in November after learning a person with ties to the Greater Toronto Area was believed to be trafficking drugs in the Huronia West OPP detachment area, police said in a news release.
On Thursday, police executed a warrant at a location in Innisfil and seized a Glock 43 9mm handgun with a six-round 9mm magazine and ammunition, and $23,000 in Canadian currency.
Sherman Mathurin, 20, has been charged with knowledge of unauthorized possession of a firearm, possession of a prohibited firearm with ammo, possession of a firearm or ammunition contrary to a prohibition order, unauthorized possession of a firearm, and possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime over $5,000.
Police said the accused was on a weapons prohibition at the time of the arrest and is being held in custody pending a bail hearing.
