A Collingwood driver is among four people who were charged with impaired driving related offences between Christmas and New Year's Day in Grey-Bruce Ontario Provincial Police territory.
A 35-year-old Collingwood man was charged after going through a RIDE program on New Year's Day at 2:25 p.m. on Lower Valley Road in Grey Highlands. Police say as the vehicle entered the RIDE check, officers saw the driver and passenger switching seats.
The Collingwood man faces charges of operation while prohibited under the criminal code, and failure or refusal to comply with demand.
The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Owen Sound on February 13, 2025.
The other three incidents reported by Grey Bruce OPP include a South Bruce Peninsula woman charged with operation while impaired and operation with a blood alcohol concentration over 80 after police pulled her over on Christmas Eve at 5:48 p.m. in South Bruce Peninsula.
A 36-year-old from Saugeen Shores was also charged with operation while impaired and over 80. Police pulled the driver over on Dec. 24 at 11:52 p.m. on Highway 21 in South Bruce Peninsula.
On Dec. 27, police were called to a collision on Grey Road 16 in Georgian Bluffs and, as a result, charged a 38-year-old from Saugeen Shores with operation while impaired and over 80.
All of the accused people will face their charges in court later this month.
All drivers had their licences suspended for 90 days and the vehicles were impounded for seven days.
"If you suspect that someone is driving while impaired by alcohol or drugs, it is important to call 9-1-1 to report it. The OPP relies on the public to report crime. Impaired driving is a crime that should be treated no differently," states a news release from OPP.
