Two people, including a youth, have been charged in relation to a New Year’s Day robbery and carjacking involving an Uber vehicle in Wasaga Beach.
On Jan. 1, shortly after 10 p.m., police responded to a report of an armed robbery of an Uber driver. The driver had responded to a request for pickup at Pizza Pizza. After picking up the suspect, and while driving, the driver said the suspect pressed an object against his head and demanded he pull over to the side of the road and get out. The driver complied, and the suspect fled in the vehicle, Huronia West OPP said in a news release.
Police located the vehicle and attempted to pull it over, but the driver failed to stop. The vehicle was later found abandoned in a parking lot in Collingwood.
A youth from Wasaga Beach has been charged with robbery using a firearm, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, flight from a peace officer, uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm, and failure to attend court while on a release order.
A 20-year-old Wasaga Beach resident was charged with possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000 and flight from a peace officer.
The accused were held for a bail hearing and are scheduled to appear in court at a later date.
