There are many factors that can contribute to tooth loss including trauma, infection, neglect, substance-use, genetics or grinding/clenching of the teeth.
According to Dadswell Denture Clinic owner/operator Kim Dadswell, approximately four in 10 Canadians over the age of 18 are missing teeth. Given that teeth are the focal point of a person’s face, many will agree that having a nice set of pearly whites can boost one’s self-confidence.
On the other hand, not having a full set of teeth can lead to low self-esteem and affect how others perceive you. Missing teeth can also affect one’s overall health and digestion by making it difficult to eat.
For nearly 25 years, Dadswell Denture Clinic has been providing full-service denture care for residents of Collingwood, Blue Mountains, Wasaga Beach, Stayner and surrounding areas. The clinic specializes in complete, partial, implant-retained and immediate dentures. Their specialists also can professionally repair, maintain and custom-build the highest quality dentures in its modern in-house laboratory.
While it’s often thought that tooth loss affects mostly the aging population, Dadswell explains, “Missing teeth can actually affect all age ranges. When it comes to children, teeth are generally lost due to trauma caused by sports accidents, falls or neglect. They also can be lost due to losing primary teeth and not having adult teeth to replace them, which is often caused by genetics.”
“In adults,” Dadswell says, “it’s often worn-out dental restorations that result in tooth loss - old fillings are lost and old crowns break-down.”
Dadswell Denture Clinic provides a wide array of dentures for all ages and can be as simple as a single tooth or as complicated as a full-mouth reconstruction that is supported by implants. Individuals who aren’t sure about what type of denture would suit them best are encouraged to book an appointment for a customized estimate.
The clinic keeps up to date with ever-changing technology and medical advances. Dadswell says, “Denture technology is currently undergoing drastic changes in how we acquire the information we need to build dentures and how we produce them. The clinic is on the leading edge of digital dentures, which allows dentures to be 3D printed or milled. It also allows the clinic to store the measurements and other patient information, making the reproduction of dentures in the future easier. Our clinic currently owns a 3D dental scanner and printer. We may soon add a mill to this process.”
Since re-opening, Dadswell wants to reassure current and potential clients that the clinic has implemented strict COVID-19 protocols. This includes new screening procedures, modified hours of operation and scheduling procedures, an efficient air filtration system and small renovations that make the environment safer for both clients and staff. Clients will need to book an appointment and walk-ins will not be permitted. The clinic also is limiting the number of people in the office at any given time to five or less.
The clinic offers a variety of other services including custom mouth guards and teeth whitening. For more information, contact Dadswell Denture Clinic today.
