Growing a beautiful garden takes time and effort, but most importantly, it begins with the right products. At Canadian Tire Collingwood, you’ll discover everything you need to maintain all the plants in your garden and backyard.

Every May to September, Canadian Tire’s garden centre manager Michele Clayton stocks the store’s garden centre with the most popular products and nursery stock. And because they buy in such large quantity, you’ll often find what you’re looking for at a fraction of the price of independent garden centres.

“We’ve got really good prices and really good quality stock,” Clayton said. “I get it from the same suppliers that the independents do. It’s the same product. You’re just paying less money because Canadian Tire has buying power.”

Everyone from the avid gardener to the entry-level gardener can find everything they need at Canadian Tire. With plenty of experts on staff, including a master gardener, Canadian Tire Collingwood is well-versed in everything gardening.

Clayton says that questions about fertilizer are often the most common requests they get at Canadian Tire, not just the type of fertilizer to use for planting, but how much. She always cautions that applying too much fertilizer to plants could be detrimental to their health.

“Over-fertilizing is worse than under-fertilizing,” Clayton said. “When you have a headache, you don’t take a whole bottle of aspirin. It’s the same with fertilizer; everything in moderation. Lots of people over-fertilize, and it’s one of the worst things you can do to your plant. You can always add more fertilizer, but you can’t take it away once it’s in the ground.”

At this point in the year, most people have established their lawn and garden, but popular products at Canadian Tire’s garden centre are geraniums, marigolds, and hydrangeas. Because hydrangeas flower from July to October, they’re one of the store’s most popular nursery stock items.

One product that Canadian Tire carries which customers might not be aware of is trees. They sell a lot of maple trees in several varieties, including Crimson King maple, and Autumn Blaze maple trees, which is one of the fastest growing varieties of maple trees. Canadian Tire has these trees on sale for $99 dollars, and they range in 12 to 14 feet high in 10-to-20-gallon pots.

It’s not just beginner or avid gardeners that shop at Canadian Tire Collingwood’s garden centre, landscapers will often order in bulk because the prices are competitive, and the buying power allows Canadian Tire to order these items in quickly.

Some gardeners are looking for specific nursery stock, and Canadian Tire can special order in nursery items if you don’t see something on the shelves in Collingwood. Whether it’s a unique fern or a specific hydrangea, speak to Canadian Tire’s garden centre staff to place your special order.

One of the most unique items you’ll find inside the garden centre at Canadian Tire Collingwood is the Scotch Pine Topiary tree. These are similar to Bonsai trees, but much larger in scale, and are popular among tree hobbyists.
