MPP Brian Saunderson marks Seniors Month in Simcoe-Grey

The 2024 theme "Working for Seniors" includes connecting Ontario seniors with help, support and resources they can count on and turn to

If you want a real-life history lesson, talk to your grandparents.

They will tell you stories about growing up in another time.

A time of hand-written letters, $30,000 homes and conflicts we can’t even imagine.

No cell phones. No email. No internet.

Certainly, no AI.

The changes in technology aside, your grandparents’, if they’re alive, or any senior, will describe a simpler time.

A time when neighbours’ not only knew each other, they helped each other.

When people often worked at one company their entire career.

Seniors saw stock markets rise and fall. They lived through double digit interest rates.

Many would save before buying a big-ticket item, other than a house or car.

Seniors remember.  They have great stories to tell and lessons to share.

Many laid the groundwork for the many benefits we enjoy today.

We should never forget to give back.

June is Seniors Month in Simcoe-Grey and throughout Ontario.

It’s a time to honour and celebrate the contributions seniors have made to help make this province the great place it is today.

When we do reach that point in our lives, we’ll want to know there is help, support and resources we can count on and turn to.

To make it easier and more convenient for seniors and their families to find the information they need to connect to services and resources, the Ontario government is launching a new and interactive website at Ontario.ca/seniors.

As part of our government’s plan to help people easily connect with the government services they need, our new seniors website now puts everything seniors and their loved ones need to find, right at their fingertips.

This year’s Senior’s Month theme is Working for Seniors.

And that’s exactly what our government is doing.

Afterall, Seniors are Ontario’s fastest growing demographic.

And someday, we’ll be part of that demographic.

And we’ll all have our stories and life-long lessons to share.
