The announcement was shared in just a few short minutes, but it took so many weeks, months and years of work prior to this month’s News Conference that will change this community forever.

By now you may know, our government is investing up to $95.5 million to build a new Collingwood General and Marine Hospital.

It’s a generational project that will benefit this growing community and others for decades to come.

Providing world-class healthcare is a top priority of our government.

This immense project will connect more people and families in Collingwood and south Georgian Bay communities to more convenient, high-quality care, close to home.

We all depend on our local hospital.

It’s a pillar of the community.

From the birth of a child to palliative care and everything in between, the hospital is there.

This new funding is in addition to the over $15.5 million investment previously provided by the Ontario government to support the early planning for the redevelopment of Collingwood General and Marine Hospital.

Now the next phase of this elaborate project begins.

The ministry will work with Collingwood General and Marine Hospital to complete detailed planning and design for this project.

A construction schedule will be confirmed once future planning is complete and the project is tendered and awarded.

Detailed planning for a brand-new replacement hospital on a new site will create a larger, state-of-the-art space to expand services and ensure the hospital can continue to meet the needs of the rapidly growing community into the future.

Once opened, this new hospital will include:

⦁    Increased capacity with 132 inpatient, fully private beds, allowing the hospital to serve more patients and families
⦁    Enhanced infection prevention and control measures to ensure the health and safety of all patients
⦁    Expanded access to key services, including intensive care, emergency, diagnostic imaging and operating suites

I want to sincerely thank John DiPoce for his steadfast commitment to our Region.

He is the generous donor of the Georgian College South Georgian Bay Campus that bears his name.

He is also the donor of the future Hospital site on Poplar Sideroad.

It’s been a historic year in Simcoe-Grey.

We’re building schools, creating jobs and investing in infrastructure that will allow the construction of much needed housing.

The new hospital checks off another box as we all look toward 2025.
