Simcoe-Grey comes to life in the Fall.
This is the time of year when our farms and orchards deliver some of the best bounty in Canada. All you must do is drive along a highway or sideroad and you’ll get a front row seat to the annual spender that unfolds each September and October.
While agriculture has always been a pilar and economic driver here, new industries have blossomed because of the unique growing season in Simcoe-Grey. One of those is our Cider Industry.
It employs many in Simcoe-Grey and generates millions of dollars. The Cider Industry has quickly become a major economic contributor to the region.
Our government recognizes this sector and is investing in its future growth.
Over the next six years, our government is investing up to $6 million in the Ontario Craft Cider Marketing Fund to help provincial craft cideries market their products to more consumers and stimulate growth across the sector.
My colleague, the Minister of Agriculture Rob Flack said “Our government is supporting Ontario cideries in reaching more local consumers with their incredible, world-renowned products. We recognize the industry’s great potential for growth, and this investment is just one way we are ensuring its success, now and in the future.”
This investment will:
- Stimulate long-term growth in Ontario’s craft cider sector
- Enhance consumer awareness of Ontario craft cider products
- Accelerate the ability of our cideries to take advantage of new market opportunities
Also, our Small Cidery Program helps cideries grow and increase the scale of their operations, with grants of up to $220,000 to hire more staff and purchase new state-of-the-art equipment.
When you’re shopping for your favourite cider this fall, remember these terrific local producers:
- Spy Cider House and Distillery
- Duntroon Cyder House & Farm
- Thornbury Craft Co. Cider & Brew House
- Ardiel Cider House
- Grey & Gold Cider
- Reinhart’s Cider
Watch for new information in the coming days as we continue to celebrate the Cider Industry in Simcoe-Grey.
Cheers!
