What outdoor summer projects are keeping Collingwood residents busy right now? Chances are you and your neighbours may have similar visions for your space.

Recently CollingwoodToday.com took a poll to find out exactly which kinds of projects homeowners in Collingwood will be working on over the summer months. Here are the results:

It turns out that local residents are busy tackling the following to-do’s. 33% of readers have landscaping work top of mind, followed closely by 32% who will be planting or working on a garden.

The next most popular project, at 19%, was building or fixing a deck or patio. 9% of respondents said that they will be painting their home’s exterior.

Two projects tied for 4% of the readership: these homeowners will be installing a fence and adding a shed or garage. A couple of residents also plan to add siding to their home.

Tailored advice, from the experts

Customers often come in saying they have a project they need to execute—like building a shed, for example—but have no idea where to start. Co-owner Tracey Caron always advises people to drop by the contractor desk.

“Our knowledgeable staff can help you plan and quote your projects, big or small,” she says, “and they’re not just for contractors.”

Another question staff often get is, ‘How can I fix the peeling stain on my deck?’ “Stop by our paint department and speak to any of our paint experts for guidance on cleaning and re-staining properly in the prime weather conditions, in order to avoid it happening again,” Caron explains.

“The loose stain must be removed, and the wood properly cleaned and dry, then temperatures need to be between 10-27 degrees Celsius for 3 consecutive days (that means not dipping below 10 at night, and got going above 27 in the daytime) with no rain in the forecast for 72 hours after completion. Best time of year to plan for this type of project is usually in May-June, or later in August or early September.”

When shoppers inquire about the quality of BeautiTone paint, they’re often surprised to learn that it is Home Hardware’s own paint line and it’s made in Canada, in Burford, Ontario. Says Caron, “Our Designer Series line is really a ‘best-kept secret’ and it shouldn’t be! With exceptional quality, dynamic colour selection, and an affordable price, you won’t be disappointed with the results.”

“The best place to buy is at 6th and High!” says Caron. “This is where you will find everything you need for inside and outside your home, plus expert advice. You’ll be sure to find all of the supplies for your paint and stain projects, yard and garden, including pressure-treated lumber and decking.”
