Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound MP Alex Ruff is warning residents to be mindful of scams regarding government services.
On Nov. 21, Ruff issued a statement to the public about the problem.
“Recently, my office has been alerted to an increase in third parties selling or soliciting to assist constituents with applying for government benefits. Mail, phone calls, websites, and emails use Canadian flags and other branding that appears to be affiliated with the federal or provincial governments,” Ruff said.
Ruff encouraged Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound constituents to maintain healthy skepticism towards any solicitations for government benefits.
“You do not need to hire a third-party business to apply for disability benefits, a pardon (record suspension), or to apply for an immigration or citizenship application,” said Ruff.
