Grey Highlands council has put a report about the possibility of a splash pad in Markdale on hold until new information can be included.

At its council meeting on Aug. 16, council voted to defer a staff report about the possible Markdale splash pad until a later date. At the meeting, Markdale splash pad committee member Shannon Iadinardi asked council to defer the matter until the committee could bring forward more information.

Iadinardi said there were “inconsistencies” in the report and the committee was “disappointed in the lack of communications” about the matter.

Later in the meeting, council voted to defer the report until the splash pad committee could relay more information to municipal staff about the project.

The report outlines the possibility of locating a splash pad at King Edward Park in Markdale. The report estimates that the project will cost approximately $400,000.

The report also recommends that the municipality complete a King Edward Park master plan in the near future. Staff noted that a number of projects and upgrades to the park are under consideration including: an expansion of the library, possible pickleball courts, baseball diamond updates, a new snack booth and the needs of the Markdale Agricultural Society (the park hosts the annual fall fair).

The splash pad committee made a presentation to council about the concept in February.

An updated report will return to council at a future meeting.
