Grey Highlands councillor Joel Loughead is anxious to see the municipality get a new lake management task force in place.

Grey Highlands council held a committee of the whole meeting on July 24 to discuss the future and terms of reference for the municipality’s various boards and committees.

Included on the list of committees and boards in the report by staff are the yet-to-be-formed lake management and waste management task forces.

At the conclusion of the meeting, Loughead asked municipal staff for an update on the two task forces.

In April 2024, council passed a resolution from Coun. Nadia Dubyk to create a lake management task force to study the possibility of creating lake management plans for the various lakes in Grey Highlands.

Clerk Amanda Fines-VanAlstine reported that the terms of reference for the waste management task force have been approved by council and the municipality was advertising for public members to serve on the group. Fines-VanAlstine said she does not yet have a timeline for when draft terms of management for the lake management task force will be ready.

Loughead said he has been hearing about the need for the lake management task force since before his election to council and asked staff to consider his comments on the subject “a gentle reminder” that it is a key project.

“There are folks in this community eagerly awaiting this task force,” said Loughead.
