Grey Highlands will begin holding virtual council meetings on March 25.
“Through special legislation passed by the province, council is able to continue to govern through virtual meetings and make decisions in a timely manner,” said mayor of the municipality of Grey Highlands, Paul McQueen.
The Grey Highlands council is scheduled to meet virtually to implement Bill 187 - the Municipal Emergency Act on March 25 at 10 a.m. and will also hold a regular council meeting at 1 p.m.
McQueen addressed the public via a live YouTube video on Monday afternoon.
“As a community I know every one of you is dealing with your own set of challenges and concerns. As your municipal leaders we are committed to providing leadership and guidance by providing you with the essential information and ensuring a continuance of services throughout the municipality, including water, sewer, garbage collection and emergency management,” he said.
McQueen also stated the municipalities emergency services and senior management team are meeting daily through video conferencing and administrative staff are still operating from home offices.
He encouraged residents to abide by public health measures, such as self-isolation and social distancing.
“As soon as we know and are able to share relevant information, we will do that,” McQueen said. “Do your part, self-isolate, practice social distancing and be there for one another.”
In his address to the public, the mayor confirmed that there are currently no plans to reopen municipal facilities. Anyone with questions or concerns for the municipality are asked to contact via administrative staff through email or telephone.
