Local hospitals in Grey and Bruce counties are receiving more than $2.7 million in infrastructure funding from the provincial government.

Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound MPP Rick Byers and Huron-Bruce MPP Lisa Thompson announced via a news release $2,768,071 in Health and Infrastructure Renewal Fund money for three local hospital corporations.

The hospitals use the money to support critical infrastructure upgrades and repairs. Locally, the following hospital corporations will receive funding for 2024-25:

  • $1,930,962 - Brightshores Health Systems (hospitals in Owen Sound, Meaford, Markdale, Lion’s Head, Southampton and Wiarton)
  • $218,900 - Hanover and District Hospital
  • $618,209 - South Bruce Grey Health Centre (hospitals in Durham, Walkerton, Kincardine and Chesley)

“Our government recognizes the important role hospitals have in the delivery of rural health care and I’m pleased that the hospital infrastructure funding has been secured in continued support," said Thompson in a news release.

Byers said the funding enables local hospitals to keep up with the challenge of maintaining their infrastructure.

“The government's investment of over $2.7 million will help address the need for upgrades and repairs at our local hospitals," said Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound MPP Rick Byers in the news release. "Upgrading roofs, windows, security and fire alarm systems will ensure that people receive excellent care in safe, modern facilities."

Across the province 129 hospitals and 58 community health care facilities are receiving a total of $228 million through HIRF in 2024/25.
