The Integrity Commissioner for the Town of The Blue Mountains had a busy year.

Suzanne Craig, who has been the commissioner for the town since 2019, delivered her report covering the months from June 2021 to August 2022 at council’s meeting on Nov. 14.

The commissioner looked into a total of 69 inquiries and cost the town $49,991.20.

In her report, Craig divided the inquiries to her office into three categories: code-of-conduct-related inquiries, code-of-conduct complaints (formal and informal) and inquiries about process.

During that time period, Craig looked into 48 code-of-conduct-related inquiries – 32 from council, 10 from the public and six from staff.

She received 11 code of conduct complaints. Of that total five were formal, three of these were dismissed with reasons to the party, one resulted in a report to council with a finding of no contravention and one resulted in a report to council with a finding of contravention with no recommendation of penalty. Craig received six informal complaints with two negotiated and four dismissed.

Craig also received a total of 10 other inquiries from the public related to process.

“I would like to extend my appreciation to the town clerk, Ms. Corrina Giles, who has assisted me in this reporting period and through this council term, in navigating the various town policies and processes in fulfilment of my mandate,” Craig said in her report.

Mayor Alar Soever thanked Craig on behalf of council.

“I’d like to thank Ms. Craig for her service. She has provided very valuable advice and she has been very fair in all of her decisions,” said Soever.
