A handful of Blue Mountains businesses are offering up a chance to win a backyard makeover in exchange for your help in raising funds for the local outreach organization.
In late April, Precision Grounds Landscaping and Contracting (PGLC) partnered up with Georgian Bay Outdoors, Alliance Gator and Unilock to launch a community fundraiser in support of Beaver Valley Outreach (BVO), a community-support organization in the Town of the Blue Mountains.
“We wanted to do our part in supporting the community during these difficult times and help raise money for basic necessities, like food, for those who are struggling financially and unable to work because of COVID-19,” says Matt Duits, business operations and site supervisor for PGLC. “So, we came up with the idea of a giveaway of a complimentary service from us here at PGLC that could benefit someone in the community, while at the same time raising funds for BVO.”
Like many local businesses, when COVID-19 closures began, Duits says PGLC was forced to look at how it could do business a little differently.
“When construction businesses, including landscapers like us, were required to shut down operations due to COVID-19 social distancing requirements, we decided to pivot our services by offering a new product that we could provide safely. In response to this, we started designing and selling pre-made planter boxes along with planting instructions for people to grow their own vegetables,” he says.
Now, with the company shifted to its new focus, PGLC is excited to launch a community fundraiser that asks members of the public to make a minimum donation of $20 to BVO and engage with the company on social media, to be entered into a draw to win a custom 300-square-foot patio design.
“The winner of our prize will receive a free design and installation of a maximum 300-square-foot patio designed by PGLC with materials provided by our sponsors - Unilock, Alliance Gator and Georgian Bay Outdoors,” Duits explains, adding that finding supportive sponsors for the project was a breeze.
“We are fortunate to be part of the landscape and horticultural industry that is full of caring people and great companies,” he says.
PGLC is hoping to raise $1,000 through the fundraiser, with a 100 per cent of proceeds being donated to BVO. The contest ends and the winner will be announced on May 11.
“The community response has been great! The Blue Mountains and surrounding areas are full of supportive people willing to lend a helpful hand,” Duits says. “So far, we’ve raised $700 of our $1,000 goal and there's still time to donate and enrol in our contest.”
