Six new cases of COVID-19 have been reported in the Municipality of Grey Highlands since Friday.

The Grey Bruce Health Unit reported 16 new cases of COVID-19 on Saturday and Sunday, located in the Grey Highlands (6), Kincardine (4) Huron-Kinloss (2), Arran-Elderslie (2), Southgate, and West Grey.

“We have been seeing a deeply concerning trend of a significant increase in the number of cases locally, and in the number of close contacts of these cases. These findings are indicative of fatigue related to following public health measures,” stated Dr. Ian Arra, medical officer of health for GBHU in Sunday’s situation report.

The cumulative total number of COVID-19 cases in the Grey-Bruce region is now 221.

The region now has 33 active cases, which are located in Southgate (1), Grey Highlands (11), West Grey (2), Blue Mountains (1), Hanover (4) and Kincardine (8); Arran Elderslie (2), Huron Kinloss (2), Brockton (1), Northern Bruce Peninsula (1).

“It is important that we re-focus our energy on the basic measures that can keep us safe – the same ones that got us through the spring first wave, including: the three Ws of washing hands frequently, watching distance, and wearing face covering correctly,” Arra added.

The municipality of Grey Highlands has now had a total of 24 cases of COVID-19.

Of the 221 cumulative cases in GBHU, 175 cases have recovered and 13 cases were referred to other health units.

There are no active hospitalizations or outbreaks in any long-term care facilities, daycares or schools in GBHU.

And, GBHU continues to be one of the only health units in Ontario to have no deaths as a result of COVID-19.

Lab-confirmed COVID-19 cases in Grey County included - Owen Sound (65); Southgate (19); Grey Highlands (24); Meaford (13); West Grey (12); Blue Mountains (10); Hanover (8); Georgian Bluffs (2); Chatsworth (1). Bruce County has had 67 confirmed cases.
