The Blue Mountains council has given the okay to a parking exemption for an upcoming hospital fundraiser.
At its meeting on Jan. 29, council approved a request from Collingwood General and Marine Hospital foundation representative Kate Black for a parking exemption for a fundraising event being held in The Blue Mountains.
The hospital foundation is holding a donor-hosted fundraiser at a private residence on Lakewood Drive. The event is taking place on Feb. 24 from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Black said it is expected 20-30 people will attend.
Black said the foundation has made efforts to secure extra parking on neighbouring properties, but expected that some cars would have to park on the road during the two hours. She asked that the event be given a special one-time parking exemption from the town.
“It’s a residential street, it’s not high traffic,” she said.
The foundation had contacted various town departments about the request in advance of appearing as a delegation before council.
Members of council asked town staff if there were any worries or safety concerns about the request.
“Our team didn’t identify any issues as long as it’s that time period and one side of the road,” said Ryan Gibbons, director of community services.
Council approved the request unanimously.
